Solving Nursing Home Loneliness
Social isolation and loneliness can be detrimental to the mental health of older adults, but one high school student in Pennsylvania decided to do something about it. Nearly one year ago, Hita Gupta, began to collect camera-enabled smartphones and tablets for seniors in her community, so that they can video chat with their loved ones. One expert said of the project, "...there’s something very powerful about (reaching out) in restoring the morale of somebody who’s demoralized by loneliness.”
