Much of the world has now implemented various levels of lockdown and social distancing measures. While this effort appears to be effectively reducing the strain on our hospital capacity, the pandemic is proving to be particularly deadly to our seniors. Eighty percent of all COVID-19 deaths have been those who are 65 years of age and older1. Some studies show this percentage even higher, and this doesn't include undiagnosed cases which are predicted to be significant and we are just beginning to understand the potential impact of. While scientists continue to debate the true mortality rate of this virus, there is no doubt that our elderly population is taking the brunt of this pandemic.
