At SFCS, we are committed to shaping the future of senior living communities through thoughtful design, evidence-based research, and collaboration with key industry partners. As many of our close followers have come to know, we strive to continually educate ourselves, our business partners and our clients on the current best practices and innovations that have proven to improve the lives of seniors. From developing content for and hosting our flagship event, By Design, to supporting and contributing to the development of new building codes for senior living environments, to conducing post-occupancy evaluations, we never stop looking for the best ways to serve our ultimate end-user.
In 2024, we took significant strides in advancing our understanding of what truly enhances the quality of life for older adults by engaging in two major research initiatives.
Kicking off at the 39th Annual By Design conference, we collaborated with the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) to complete an extensive wellness program audit for senior living communities who attended last year’s conference. As we embark on exploring the data and results gathered from the completed audits, we will be able to evaluate the current state of wellness programs and their effectiveness in promoting both physical and mental well-being for residents. By analyzing the programs’ impact, we will gain valuable insights into areas where design and space planning can better support wellness initiatives for our clients. This partnership allows us to continue refining our approach to creating environments that foster holistic well-being, tailored to the specific needs of seniors.
In addition to our work with ICAA, we conducted a gerontologist-driven focus group with C-Suite executives from leading senior living communities. This in-depth discussion provided a platform for industry leaders to share their most pressing concerns and challenges in senior living design. Topics ranged from the evolving needs of residents to the integration of technology, staffing issues, and the rising demand for flexible, adaptable spaces. These conversations will directly inform our design philosophy and help ensure that our future projects remain in tune with the evolving demands of the senior living industry. Don’t miss Dr. Lydia Manning’s presentation on her findings at our upcoming 40th Annual By Design conference on February 4 – 6, 2025 at Hotel Roanoke.
We are excited to build upon these research efforts and initiate new studies as we move into 2025. Our partnerships with the ICAA, National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC), and SAGE will allow us to expand our exploration of innovative solutions that address the unique needs of senior living communities. We are focused on ongoing collaboration, research, and design innovation to ensure that our senior living environments not only meet the needs of today but are also adaptable to the future.
At SFCS, we recognize the importance of continuous learning and adapting to emerging trends in the senior living sector. Our research initiatives empower us to create communities that truly prioritize the well-being and dignity of seniors. We look forward to sharing our continued progress and innovations in the year ahead. Stay tuned!
